Watching the trailer I felt great interest to see the movie, as I'm fond of sci-fi, and that trailer appeared quite like one of my favorites "Transformers. big robots, crazy fight, man with them; I was eager to get a DVD of it. Surprizing me, my friend at home bought it for the weekend. Relaxing on the couch with drinks and snacks we started playing it in our PS3. and next few hours I didn't speak a word but watching the movie, enjoying its every bit, the fights, and most - the characters. To my opinion, it is not just an action movie. Besides the bot-fight tensions comes up the tension of father-son relationship. I think at this point, this movie becomes a meritorious one. I just loved the characterization, the presentation of story (though the story wasn't an epic one) and the two main characters' acting was superb; especially the kid. his acting was so naturally flowing and spontaneous, really blown my mind! Jackman's talent faded to that little boy's performance, if we compare them considering the age and experience of acting. A great movie for all.

Real steel song. I went to see Real Steel because it was filmed here in Michigan and I wanted to see my Michigan extra peeps. When the film finally got to Detroit for this big fighting tournament, I didn't see any of them. Then I find out afterwards that since the incentives never came through, they cut their parts out. Did I think I wasted my time? Well, not really.
Real Steel is about Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) owing people he can't pay who now wants to beat every inch of his life, and relies on big robots to fight tournaments for him. He keeps losing. However, a turn of events happen and his ex dies and leaves their son in his care. Well, actually her sister takes custody as Wolverine basically sells him. But then it turns into this father and son story where they work together to win these tournaments. like what we've seen in the trailers.
The problem with Real Steel is that it's very formulaic, by-the-numbers, like we've seen this in a hundred films before. It's a tried and true formula and it can be heart warming, but by the end of the film where characters are supposed to change, it just feels forced. The third act alone just feels forced and rushed, and the robots themselves which should feel like the forefront just seems to be shoved in the background for this father and son story. Maybe they were supposed to be shoved in the background, but I really wanted to explore the kid's robot, Atom, a little more but I never really got that. It never felt like a character to me.
The kid (played by Dakota Goyo) steals the show. He is very good and well written. I might even go as far to say that the kid and the writer probably had fun with this character. I also enjoyed Evangeline Lilley's performance as Bailey Tallet. She delivered a strong performance and she was gorgeous to look at. Hugh Jackman (not his fault) just seemed too douchy in this movie. He's just a jerk to this kid and everyone around him throughout the whole movie that when it came time for his redemption, I just didn't buy it. There's also this forced emotion in the ending of the film, and me and my date both agreed it was pretty lame.
Real Steel is just an average sci-fi movie that has an interesting concept that seems plausible but the execution of being a film just landed on the Okay Express. It's a shame none of my Michigan buddies made it in the film, but then again, maybe it was for the best.
